Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences
Head of Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences: Assisttant Prof. Maruf Hurşit DEMİREL
Analytical chemistry is the department that basically performs organic and inorganic analyses of drugs, drug-like molecules, active ingredients in endemic plants, and active ingredients of drugs. These analyses are based on spectroscopic, electroanalytical, chromatographic, titrimetric, gravimetric and complexometric methods. In vivo and in vitro studies are conducted with the outputs of organic and inorganic analyses and new types of drug release studies are supported. Analytical Chemistry departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy throughout Turkey carry out joint studies with many departments such as Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Technology and make significant contributions to the world of science.

Biochemistry is a sub-discipline of both biology and chemistry. It is a branch of science that studies the structure and components of living things such as plants, animals and microorganisms and the chemical processes that occur throughout the life of the living being at the molecular level. Biochemistry is a multidisciplinary field that has taken its basis from health and life sciences and has led to the formation of new branches of science such as genetics and forensic medicine over time. Today, molecular biology includes traditional disciplines such as cell biology, enzyme biology and biotechnology, as well as newer scientific fields such as genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics. Biochemistry studies are intertwined with organic, inorganic, analytical chemistry and advanced molecular biology techniques. The determination of differences observed in protein, RNA and DNA levels in normal and pathological conditions of the organism constitutes the basic subjects of Biochemistry. Therefore, Biochemistry plays an important role in determining the causes of diseases and in the design of drugs to be used to eliminate these causes and in determining their target locations.
