Pharmaceutical Toxicology
Toxicology, which means poison knowledge, is a branch of science that examines the harmful effects of chemical agents found in the environment or taken into the body. Toxicology, which has a long history, is a constantly developing science. Sources of toxic substances, properties, routes of entry into the organism, mechanisms by which toxic effects occur, toxic doses, changes and effects they undergo in the living organism, how to protect against these toxic effects and treatment of poisoning, isolation and analysis of toxic substances are the study areas of toxicology. The science of toxicology investigates the cellular, biochemical and molecular mechanisms of adverse effects of chemical substances and reveals the associated risks. The fact that every chemical can show toxic effects in a dose-dependent manner makes the subject of toxicology a very wide area as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, pesticides, food additives, production residues, household cleaning materials and industrial chemicals. As the Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, it is aimed to teach students the basic knowledge in these fields and to gain competence in their professional application.
