Department of Pharmacognosy

Pharmacognosy, which is one of the basic disciplines of pharmacy, is a department that theoretically and practically examines the use of pharmaceutical raw materials obtained from plants and other natural sources directly, by processing or by obtaining drug active ingredients. Classification of metabolism products obtained from natural sources, physical and chemical properties, separation and analysis methods, biological activities, drugs rich in these substances, their usage methods and usage purposes are the main study subjects of Pharmacognosy. Phytotherapy, Aromatherapy, Nutraceuticals, Marine Pharmacognosy, Phytocosmetics are sub research areas of Pharmacognosy. Pharmacognosy department can carry out multidisciplinary studies with Pharmaceutical Botany, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Pharmacology.
